Fishing in the Gulf of America

Brand new grandchild, the sixth!

Shimrit Hanes, A musician Who Found a New Love

On the peaceful gulf coast of Florida, Shimrit Hanes crafts science fiction narratives that weave together survival wisdom and an imaginative world. She approaches her storytelling with the same dedication that has guided her through years of adventures, challenges, and creative pursuits.

When not immersed in her fictional universe, Shimrit can be found tending to her acre of homestead land, coaxing vegetables from Florida sand, or formatting books for fellow authors. The jewelry she creates, like her stories, combine raw elements into something both beautiful and meaningful.

Her path to writing emerged unexpectedly. After chronic fatigue curtailed her music ministry, she felt lost, seeking God for purpose. Inspiration struck while encouraging her three eldest daughters in their own writing journeys. What began as moral support transformed into a personal renaissance, reviving her love of story-telling, a flame ignited as a child who devoured books and wrote poetry and short stories.

Her science fiction works stand apart because they are full of practical wisdom drawn from decades of making do.

Her travels in Asia, Central America, and the Middle East, and weathering hurricanes at home, she infuses her narratives with hard-won wisdom. This unique approach transforms entertainment into something more valuable—stories that might one day help readers navigate their own challenges.

Family remains at the center of Shimrit's world and music continues to flow through her life and work. She lives with her husband and they visit her beloved grandchildren often. Between hurricane preparations and fishing expeditions in the Gulf, she steals moments to swim in Florida's crystal springs—gathering sensory experiences that later enrich her writing.

Shimrit approaches her writing with unwavering commitment. She admits to getting "real cranky" when unable to write for extended periods—a testament to how integral storytelling has become to her identity. Her persistence, coupled with natural creativity and inventiveness, continues to produce science fiction that entertains, instructs, and inspire.

Award-winning author Terri Gillespie describes her as "a gifted storyteller who delivers realistic characters I care about.”
